NYAA Guidelines

Hey Guides!:) This is for the Sec 2 and 3 Guides Only!

This Thursday (5th Sept) , we will be having a slightly more relaxing Guides NYAA Session! Please remember to bring writing materials, your NYAA booklets and a thoughtful mind!:) Hopefully all of us still have our NYAA booklets, if not we will have to buy new ones!

We will be writing reflections on some of the activities listed below, so please start thinking about what you could write about before our session on Thursday.

Basically, we have 4 sections in our NYAA Booklet. We should have had written some of them already as part of our CE lessons, so please take note not to write repeats or two reflections under the same section!

  • Service
    • 15 hours over 3 months
    • (e.g. Sec 2 SL trip - reflections must include prep time, the actual trip and the after)
    • NOT ACCEPTED: CLASS CIP
  • Adventurous Journey
    • 2 days outdoor adventure, 1 night in a tent, 12 hours of effort, defined purpose
    • (e.g. OBS, makeshift OBS for Sec 3s)
    • NOT ACCEPTED: GUIDES JUNE CAMP
  • Skills Development
    • Practice of skill for at least 6 months
    • (E.g. LAMDA, Dance Enrichment 2013, Guitar Classes during music, marching)
    • NOT INCLUDED: DRAMA PRODUCTIONS BY SCHOOL, MT FORTNIGHT, CHINESE DRAMA - SEC 1
  • Physical Recreation
    • 20 hours over 8 weeks
    • (e.g. improving physical fintness, GE run, Health week activities, colour run - reflections must include prep for activities e.g training)
    • NOT INCLUDED: 2.4KM (NAPFA)
Please look out for the programme which will be uploaded soon! Also, feel free to ask the leaders if you have any questions! Thanks and see ya on Thursday!:D

Lots of Love,

Important

Attention all Guides

This is regarding the proficiency badges that we were all supposed to do and have handed up on 29/8,Thursday. We are feeling quite disappointed in the number of guides (21 people) who have not handed in their profis despite the one whole month we were given to complete it. We know that we can be quite busy with our schoolwork and extra curriculum, and that is why we extended the dateline to give us all enough time to complete our profis without feeling too stressed out. Unfortunately, one third of of our guides still have not handed in their profis.

We assign all of us profis to complete, as they contribute to our NYAA points, but more importantly, are good learning activities and are personal achievements we hope you can feel proud about. We really hope for profis to be something we all can actually enjoy doing once in awhile, and not something you do grudgingly only because the leaders assign you to complete them.

Also, this is something we do as part of guides, and it is quite saddening to see that some of us participate in activities that contribute to guides only because the leaders chase you to do so. Scolding or chasing after you is something we do not enjoy doing, so we hope all of us can try to improve on this.

Guides is our CCA and we hope that we can learn to really prioritise guides more and put in more effort in doing our part to contribute to our CCA.

As such, by this THURSDAY 5/9, we hope to see every single one of our profis submitted to us.  If you have any problems with that, be it stress or otherwise, please talk to the CLs and ACLs, and let us know. Please do not disappoint us again Guides.

Thank you.

Honor's Day Instructions

Hey guides!:)

So these are the Honors Day instructions, extra-large so that you can remember better haha! Please read through the two documents. Note: You DO NOT have to attend the rehearsal, unless you are one of the CLs or ACLs. This is only for the sec 2s to 4s.

Some things to remember:

- Please bring your full guides uniform, clean shoes, have neat  hair and remember all the rules for guides attire! (You can search for a post about this in the search bar of the blog if you cannot remember the rules)

- Please be on your best behavior (a.k.a the guides behavior, because  we guides are always well-behaved aren't we!:) )  and be respectful of the people receiving their prize. Let's impress the rest!

- Please remember to turn up punctually. If you are unable to attend due to you being sick, please remember to submit your MC. If not, you may not be able to receive your prize.

- Please remember your positions and order we practiced today. Basically, you will be  lining up by the side of the stage IN PAIRS, according to your position on the risers. E.g. You will be paired with a guide next to you.

We will start from the 4th row (the tallest) as the first people in line when queuing up to go onto stage. The tall people (1st row) will be at the end of the queue to go onto stage. After walking onto stage, please stand in your respective positions on the risers.  We only have 1 minute to get into our positions, so please run through the going up onto stage in your minds so that we will be able to stun the rest with our fluidity!
Please also listen out for Dinie's cue as she counts from 1 to 3: We shall bow AFTER 3

-For those who were not at the practice for Honors Day on Wednesday when we allocated positions, please sms Alyssa Ling by Friday, 30th August to find out your positions!

Thank you!:)

A few Reminders

Hey Guides!!!

So just a few notices/reminders, since a lot of people have been asking;

1) You cannot pass Outdoor Activities clause with June or March Camp.
2) However, you can pass Camping if you have slept under the canvas (green) tent for two nights during June Camp.
3) If you want to get your Deportment & conduct in public clause signed, I suggest you hand up your guides Handbook together with your form (that's already been signed by your FT) to Mrs Cheong with a note for her to sign your handbook. *Remember to thank her afterwards!!*
4) If you have already done your Conservation test (the one where you refer to the website) and have gotten it signed, you need not do your scrapbook. If not, you have to do your conservation scrapbook.

In case you didn't know the requirements for the scrapbook:

- Research on 3 endangered animals and 3 endangered plants (include habitat, diet, current population and other background information, reasons for being endangered, how to help these species)
- AND research on the background of organizations that help endangered species

5) Remember to do your homework!! It's due 22nd August so please please manage your time well and do this proficiency badge well!! Also, don't hand up old profis. Or we'll just make you do another one.

Come on guides we HAVE to do this! We have to strive to get our PNA GOLD!!! :) Let's do this!!! :)

That's all for now,
Have a great weekend!!
xoxo

Just remember to draw a decent drawing of the national coat of arms, national flag and national symbol and make sure you know all the significance. :)

Have a great week ahead! :)

  • Please remember to print out your lyrics as well and familiarize yourself with the song!
  • For Fire-lighting practical, please read up on your theory before guides! It’s your decision whether you would like to take the test or not but make sure you know what to do (3 matches only and stick to timing!) cause the test is individual!
